Citrus sinensis (sweet orange) and Citrus aurantium (bitter orange) is a hybrid, the result of a crossing over 4000 years ago, between grapefruit and mandarin, which today has become in effect an autonomous species. In terms of nutritional content, Sicilian oranges abound in vitamins of groups A, B and C. Think that a couple of Sicilian oranges are enough to satisfy the entire daily requirement of vitamin C of our body, helping to strengthen the immune system and to facilitate the absorption of iron. No less healthy is the presence of bioflavonoids that provide an irreplaceable contribution to strengthening the joints and counteract the fragility of the capillaries, thus promoting blood circulation. Sicilian oranges, if consumed regularly as part of a diet rich in vegetables, have also proved very efficient in avoiding the onset of some cancers thanks to the presence of terpenes. Vitamin B, on the other hand, is useful for promoting digestion, while vitamin A, thanks to the high content of carotenes, prevents infections and helps keep skin and eyes healthy.
